BIOGRAPHY
Después de más de quince años trabajando con grupos nacionales,
Mariano Valdayo nos presenta una formación en la que desarrolla
todo un repertorio de composiciones originales, cargadas de influencias muy diversas. Desde el be-bop, pasando por el jazz de vanguardia, hasta llegar a entroncar con sus raíces más flamencas, como en el tema Isbiliya, dedicado a la ciudad de Sevilla, de la que es natural.
Este quinteto, formado por músicos nacionales y cubanos, interpreta composiciones del propio Valdayo como The Minor On The Road, o Mr. Bennett, ésta última dedicada al organista fallecido Lou Bennett.
En 2008, el quinteto ganó el I PREMIO DEL CONCURSO INTERNACIONAL AUDICIONES, organizado por la FUNDACIÓN CANAL. Entre los miembros del jurado se encontraban críticos de reconocido prestigio como Juan Claudio Cifuentes “Cifu”.
Recientemente han grabado el máster de lo que será el álbum, The Minor On The Road.
After more than fifteen years working with national groups throughout Spain, Mariano Valdayo presents us a new formation of musicians. With his Special Quintet, Mariano develops a repertoire of original compositions, loaded with many different influences, from be-bop, to avant-garde jazz, to remaking the connection with his deep flamenco roots, ( as in the Isbiliya theme dedicated to the city of Seville).
The Mariano Valdayo Quintet, comprised of national and Cuban musicians, interprets compositions of the same Valdayo such as The Minor On The Road, or Mr. Bennett, the latter dedicated to the late organist Lou Bennett.
In 2008 the quintet won the I INTERNATIONAL CONTEST PRIZE "AUDICIONES", organized by FUNDACIÓN CANAL. The jurors were comprised of several highly renowned critics, such as Juan Claudio Cifuentes "Cifu ".
The Mariano Valdayo Quintet recently recorded the masters of what will be the album, The Minor On The Road.
